AMD's Flagship Desktop Processor Price Drop
The price of AMD's top-of-the-line desktop processor, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, has fallen below $500 for the first time. Amazon is currently listing it at $492. This processor boasts 16 cores and 32 threads, with 3D V-cache on one of its two 8-core CCDs. This feature provides a gaming performance boost while allowing the second CCD to maintain higher boost clocks, benefiting multithreaded productivity tasks.
Is the Ryzen 9 7950X3D worth buying at $492? In a recent interview with Tom's Hardware, AMD revealed that the initial batch of Ryzen 9000 "Zen 5" desktop processors, codenamed "Granite Ridge," do not quite match the gaming performance of the company's 7000X3D processors. However, they excel in productivity workloads, making the Ryzen 9 7950X3D an attractive option at $492. On the other hand, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which is the fastest desktop processor for gaming, is priced at $339.
