Global OLED Monitor Shipments on the Rise
TrendForce's most recent study indicates that the global OLED monitor market is experiencing significant growth. With various brands introducing new models, shipments reached a record high of around 507,000 units in the first quarter of 2025, showing a 175% year-over-year increase. Due to strong demand, especially for 27-inch UHD models, shipments are projected to reach 650,000 units in the second quarter of 2025. For the entire year, shipments are expected to hit 2.58 million units, an 81% increase from the previous year, leading to OLED's penetration rate in the overall monitor market reaching 2%.
Samsung maintained its top position in the first quarter of 2025 with over 22% market share, driven by its popular 49-inch models, which made up 40% of its OLED monitor shipments. As the 27-inch UHD model gains popularity in the second quarter, it is anticipated to become Samsung's best-selling OLED monitor size. ASUS climbed from fourth place to second in the first quarter, closing the gap with Samsung to less than one percentage point. ASUS also led in monthly shipments in February and March, showcasing its commitment to OLED monitor development and product innovation.
MSI secured the third spot with a 14% market share, thanks to its aggressive strategy in 2024 to expand into new sales channels and introduce multiple OLED models. This led to a significant 63% year-over-year growth in overall monitor shipments, with OLED monitor shipments increasing 36 times compared to the previous year. MSI's strong performance in high-end OLED models also contributed to a 69% year-over-year growth in gaming monitor shipments, the highest in the industry.
LG Electronics (LGE) ranked fourth with a 13% market share in the first quarter of 2025. The launch of its new 45-inch WUHD model helped increase the share of that screen size to 25% of its OLED lineup. However, without plans to release a 27-inch UHD model, which is currently in high demand, LGE may fall behind its competitors in shipment volume in the upcoming quarters.
Dell, with an 11% market share, temporarily dropped to fifth place. Nevertheless, the introduction of a 27-inch UHD model in the first quarter of 2025 is expected to perform well throughout the year, along with a new 31.5-inch 120 Hz monitor targeting the business segment. These new models are likely to boost shipments in the second quarter of 2025, potentially helping Dell regain its position in the OLED monitor market rankings.
