Colorful DDR5 Memory Overclocking
Colorful claims that it can run a pair of its 16 GB iGame Shadow II DDR5-6400 memory modules in dual-channel at up to 9600 MT/s on an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with a significant overclock. This was achieved by adjusting timings to CL30 (compared to the stock 28) and maintaining a 1:2 ratio between UCLK and MCLK. Stability was achieved at 9200 MT/s with CL32, indicating some instability at higher speeds. Colorful's testing was verified in RunMemTestPro, and a third test was conducted to explore lower latencies by tightening timings, reducing memory clock speed, and running UCLK and MCLK in 1:1 mode typically used for DDR5 RAM at 6000 MT/s or lower. With an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D CPU, Colorful achieved 7200 MHz with timings of 24-37-32-28 and completed the memory test with 100% stability. Additionally, an overclock of 8900 MT/s with 34-47-47-47 timings was stabilized. It is important to note that Colorful has not provided benchmark results showing performance improvements over the stock 6400 MT/s for this RAM kit, nor has it shared information on voltages or temperature impacts resulting from these overclocks. The long-term viability and implications of these overclocks remain unclear.
