ASRock BIOS Update

ASRock has released BIOS version 3.40 for its AMD 800-series motherboards. This update focuses on improving stability and compatibility for memory and CPU operations, while also addressing the AM5 socket burn issue. The release notes highlight enhancements in memory compatibility, system stability, and CPU operating stability. Notably, the update includes a fixed Load Line Calibration setting for the SoC at level 3 and a default SoC voltage of around 1.20 volts to reduce the risk of voltage spikes and overvoltage.

These changes indicate that the new firmware aims to maintain operating parameters within conservative limits, which can help reduce stress on sensitive Ryzen 9000-series X3D processors that have been prone to socket burning on certain boards.

AMD has previously attributed this issue to motherboard vendors and BIOS ODMs not following official specifications. ASRock motherboard owners are advised to apply the update, even if they are not experiencing instability, by following the official flashing instructions and backing up critical data.

While a BIOS update cannot reverse hardware failure or burns in already damaged processors, version 3.40 may lower the risk of further incidents by enforcing safer defaults. User reports for the ASRock motherboard model are being monitored to assess the effectiveness of this release in resolving the socket burn issue.
