MediaWorkstation made waves in 2020 with the announcement of their a-X2P mobile workstation, featuring dual AMD EPYC "Rome" processors with 128 "Zen 2" cores in a compact package that can almost fit in carry-on luggage. The a-X2P chassis includes an "EATX" server motherboard, seven full height expansion slots, five 5.25-inch bays, and a slot load optical drive, all within a 24-inch chassis with an integrated LCD display and fold-out mechanical keyboard. The a-X2P can also connect up to six 24-inch displays, mounted to the chassis with up to 4K resolution each, making it ideal for production, live broadcast, and monitoring. However, this expansion brings the weight of the a-X2P up to 55 lbs (~25 kg).
The latest update to the a-X2P does not change the exterior features, but instead upgrades the internals to AMD's EPYC 9004 "Genoa" processors, supporting up to 3 TB of DDR5-4800 in a 12-channel configuration. MediaWorkstation does not specify which EPYC SKUs they are using, but the highest configuration of 192 total cores suggests the EPYC 9654(P), which provides 96 cores at $11,805 each. The EPYC 9654 variants officially support a cTDP down to 320 W, slightly off the advertised maximum allowed cTDP of 300 W in the a-X2P. MediaWorkstation also does not specify the power supply, but it is likely over 1.5 kW, making it impossible to power with batteries for any usable amount of time.
MediaWorkstation does not provide pricing information on their website, as these are specialized pieces of equipment for serious enterprise-tier clientele. If you need this kind of power in a mobile package, you are likely not simply an enthusiast looking for a benchmark crusher. MediaWorkstation offers a slightly more consumer-focused Threadripper Pro luggable, known as the a-XP, as well as various configurations of Intel Xeon-based luggables.
