Intel has officially discontinued its Cryo Cooling Technology as of July 1, 2023. This marks the end of one of the few sub-ambient cooling options available in the tech industry. Cryo Cooling Technology was capable of chilling CPUs to 0 degrees Celsius, resulting in enhanced performance. It was introduced alongside Intel's processors from the 10th-generation Comet Lake to the 13th-generation Raptor Lake. However, despite its innovative approach, the cooling solution did not gain widespread popularity.

The discontinuation of Cryo Cooling Technology comes just before the release of the 14th Generation Raptor Lake Refresh, which will not support this cooling tech. Intel has announced that it will continue to provide updates for existing Cryo Cooling hardware until December 31, 2023.

Although not widely adopted, this specialized cooling method did find some use in products like the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360 Sub-Zero and the EKWB EK-QuantumX Delta TEC waterblocks. Interestingly, the technology was even compatible with non-Intel CPUs. Overclocker der8auer successfully managed to use Cryo Cooling on AMD's Ryzen 9 5950X with some modifications.

The decision to discontinue the cryo cooling project is likely driven by the need for a more financially viable approach. Intel aims to allocate resources to other projects in its laboratories while keeping research and development costs under control.
