The initial CPU-Z benchmark results for AMD's upcoming Ryzen 7 8700G were discovered by notorious leaker @momomo_us on Twitter, and the performance of the new APU appears to be very promising. It closely competes with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in terms of single-threaded performance, with a slight advantage for the CPU. However, in the multi-threaded test, the APU manages to maintain a slight lead over the CPU. Both AMD chips still lag behind Intel's Core i7-12700KF, which has four additional threads, albeit slower ones due to being on the E-cores.
The test system for the Ryzen 7 8700G consisted of an ASRock B650 Pro RS motherboard, paired with 32 GB of DDR5-6400 memory with tight timings of 32-39-39-102. The tester utilized the integrated Radeon 780M graphics in the APU, and the operating system was Windows 11, installed on a 500 GB Seagate BarraCuda 510 SSD. In the single-threaded test, the Ryzen 7 8700G achieved a score of 675 points, compared to 683 for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. In the multi-threaded test, the scores were 7318 for the APU and 7301 for the CPU. These results are impressive considering the APU's 65 W TDP compared to the CPU's 120 W TDP. For reference, the average score for Intel's Core i7-12700KF in the multi-threaded test is 7754. While CPU-Z is not a comprehensive benchmark, it does provide an initial glimpse of the performance we can expect from AMD's new Zen 4 APUs, which appears to be on par with their top-performing Zen 4 CPUs.
