While the default standard for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series is PC SIG's 16-pin power connector, technical issues have raised doubts about its future. The new 12V-2x6 connection standard is being promoted as the successor to 12VHPWR, but manufacturers are still producing products that use the latter. HXL discovered a MaxSun custom GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER design that featured two standard 8-pin PCIe power connectors instead of 12VHPWR. However, a follow-up report suggests that the Chinese board partner has removed the item from its website.
Jisakuhibi Japan's review of the Palit GeForce RTX 4080 Super GamingPro OC model revealed an interesting detail on the card's PCB. The review noted that Palit's board can natively support PCIe 8-pin x 2 power supply instead of 12VHPWR. This feature is located southeast of the standard 12VHPWR connector, indicating that Palit's PCB may have been designed for a separate professional graphics card solution. The company is unlikely to disclose its original intention with the placement of the older auxiliary power connectors, as ultimately 12VHPWR is the way forward.
